Fattorio Montecchio Chianti Classico DOCG

Chianti is arguably Italy's most famous wine. There are several tiers of quality, and sub-regions within Tuscany. The oldest and best sub-region is 'Chianti Classico', between Siena and Florence. Classico has higher minimum requirements including lower yields, higher minimum alcohol (a proxy for riper grapes at harvest), higher dry extract (more concentration), and longer aging before release. A clear step up in quality from the first tier 'Chianti'. This is an excellent example from Fattorio Montecchio - a family winery in Tuscany between Florence and Siena.

Made from 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot, featuring roasted macadamia, plush and sleek fruit, cheery and mocha with ripe supple tannins. Very nice.
