The famous Cote d'Or (golden slope) of Burgundy heralds some of the worlds greatest wines, and ultimate expressions of Pinot Noir in its original habitat. This long ridge of limestone is divided into two major sub-regions, the Cote de Nuits in the north (almost entirely planted in Pinot Noir) and the Cote de Beaune in the South (predominantly Chardonnay but also excellent Pinot Noir).

The 'Hautes Cotes' are the higher slopes of the ridge, at heights of 300-400m in the sides of valleys that slice into the Jurassic limestone plateaus, less rocky than the lower slopes. This pairing offers up one bottle of each of the Northern and Southern Hautes Cotes. The Beaune example being more sleek and plush aromatic fruit, the Nuits example being more savoury and earthy. Both offer up fine elegant tannins, and drinking superbly well now.
