Holdvolgy 'Hold and Hollo' Sweet Tokaj

The Tokaj wine region is arguably the most famous in Hungary, so much so that it is mentioned in the Hungarian National Anthem. Tokaj has been hailed as the liquid gold of Hungary, quoted in the national anthem, its praises sung by kings, queens, popes, poets, musicians and philosophers.

The Holdvolgy estate is situated on twenty-seven parcels within seven different vineyards in the best areas of the Mád basin. It is one of the oldest cellars in the region, with some sections dating back as far as the 16th century. It is also one of the longest, measuring 1.8 kilometres of tunnels.

This is a late harvest blend of Furmint and Hárslevelű, the two most iconic native grapes of the Tokaj region. Not at the intense sweetness of the Tokaj Aszu wines, but at 68g/L is definitely in the Medium-Sweet end of the spectrum.

On the nose a hint of honey with melon and peach. Sweetness initially with a savoury mid-palate, generous lime, grapefruit, quince, fresh figs, jasmine, dried orange, and peach and a twist of saffron. Lively and delicious!

Somewhat reminiscent of a Chenin Blanc, but a unique wine made from native Hungarian grape varieties.
