Castannove Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC

The Abruzzo region is located east of Rome, half-way down the 'boot' of Italy. A rugged hilly area, dotted with lush green forests, national parks, mountain peaks in the Apennine Ranges and a long coastline. Most of the wines come from the rolling hills and plains closer to the coast.

Viticulturally they are famous first and foremost for the grape Montepulciano, the mostly widely grown variety in Abruzzo (and second most widely produced red grape in all of Italy). The DOP or DOC of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a large protected appellation, it spans a total length of 120km and 10,000 hectares of vineyards.

The Montepulciano is a supple and soft red, featuring blackberry, boysenberry, and plummy fruit, subtle chocolate and herb notes in the mid palate with a light soft finish.

The Castannove line of wines comes from the family wine group Crea Vini, founded by Simone di Tommaso in 1975, growing beyond their home in Abruzzo to control vineyards in several different sub-regions of Italy.
