Taylor Fladgate and Fonseca 1994 Vintage Port Gift Pack (2x375ml)

Joint winners of the 1997 Top 100 Wine Spectator selection. They both shared #1 and then each were presented the perfect 100/100 points. This is truly one of the greatest wine gift packs in the world for quality, rarity and pure pedigree. Both 375ml bottlings are packaged in a beautiful wooden case with some copy on the wines. Imagine if you know someone who was born in 1994 !

1994: Classic Vintage

The Winter of 1993-1994 was extremely wet throughout the region. As a result, most vineyards experienced a very low yield, with production down as much as 75% in relation to the average in some areas of the Douro. In spite of the poor start, the growing season was satisfactory, with dry warm weather broken only by a few short periods of rain. Taylor's 1994 100/100 Top joint wine, Wine Spectator 1997

Deep crimson just beginning to display some maturity on the rim. The explosive fruitiness of early youth is now more restrained as the wine begins to settle into maturity but the nose is still driven by impressive focused blackberry and blackcurrant aromas set off by the classic Taylor scent of violets. Full bodied and well structured palate delivering rich blackberry and cassis flavours with spicy, figgy, liquorice flavours evolving on the long and sumptuous finish.

In a word, superb. My favourite Taylor has always been the 1948, which is still stupendous to drink today. However, I had never given a Taylor 100 points until I tasted the 1994. Score: 100/100 James Suckling Fonseca 1994 100/100 Top joint wine, Wine Spectator 1997

"Hold on to your hat. This is the best Fonseca since 1977, and it's probably even better than that classic vintage--more like the breathtaking 1948. Mind-blowing, with masses of color, aroma and fruit flavor. Smells like fermenting berries, boasting loads of crushed grape, violet and berry character. Big, full-bodied and very sweet, with tons of tannins and a sweet finish. Tannic and huge, it's a long-term, great Port. Wine Spectator

"Tight knit – not giving much away on the nose, but silky fruit is underlying. Pure berry fruit palate initially with a super-fine tannic superstructure rising in the mouth, revealing its freshness and purity on a really beautifully defined finish.
