Matariki tapatoru pendant

Matariki is well known as the Maori New Year.
It is the Maori name for the star cluster Pleiades. The word Matariki, is and abbreviation of “Nga Mata ō te Ariki Tāwhirimātea" which means, “The eyes of the god Tāwhirimātea." Traditionally, Matariki is a time to gather for Kai as a whanau, a time to acknowledge those who have passed and to release their spirits to the stars, as well as a time to reflect and be thankful for the harvest as we go into the colder season.
