This stunning Mere Pounamu has been carved by Alex Sands and sits upon a piece of native New Zealand timber.

Pounamu was highly prized by Maori and the mere pounamu as the weapon of a chief or Rangatira and was the most revered of all Maori weapons. Historically these taonga have been passed through generations; they were given names and were said to possess mana of their own.
