The Tomtit of which there are five species is a small bird with a large head that is native to New Zealand. The Māori name for the North Island Tomtit is Miromiro, while in its South Island relative is called Ngirungiru. The Tomtit lives in native bush & forest areas & is rarely seen in urban settings. Breeding pairs can raise up to three broods in a season with three to four eggs in each brood. Although they have a number of introduced predators they are not endangered.
