Scarf #48 - Felted Merino Light Green

- Phillipa Gee

Phillipa started machine knitting about 3 years ago as a hobby, something different from her jewellery line. Phillipa quickly got a little obsessed with it! And found it so much fun to see a garment take shape, and was able to use her love of yarn and colour in the design and construction.

These scarves and wraps are knitted on her 1970's Brother 830 which has a ribber; this is a completely manual machine. Initially the yarn she used came from wherever she could find it, as she needed it to be on a cone, soft, a nice colour, and plenty of it. She now have a couple of sources of yarns that use Merino, Mohair, Cashmere, Silk and Angora that she uses.

Her priority is softness.

The first colour on the label is the base colour, and this is used throughout the whole scarf/wrap. Then the other colours are changed at regular intervals to create the horizontal check effect. The vertical strips will always be the base yarn, and it is also predominant on the back. the scarves and wraps are reversible and can be worn with either side facing out. On the label she has only written the main percentage of that fibre. The rest of the yarn will be Merino or a man made fibre to give it strength.

If a Poi Room customer requests certain colours to match an outfit Phillipa aims to be able to accomodate. She can also change the yarns if they have a specific liking for a type of fibre, and make different sizes. There is a code on the back of the yarn samples on the label for identification, so she can reproduce that scarf if required. Phillipa is currently just making scarves and wraps although she may move onto other garments in the future.

Note: Spot cleaning is preferred, the scarves and wraps can be carefully hand washed, recommended detergents are Softly Delicates, and Kindess for woolens delicates.
