Lagoon Copper Blue and Lead Crystal Glass Wahaika with a Pūkaiora(figure) on an Totara base
- Mike Cameron
Traditionally, a short 2-edged weapon of stone, wood or bone, tapering in thickness. It was designed to give a crushing, rather than a cutting blow. It was used to strike the opponent's chest, head or wrist. Many Wahaika had a small figure carved on their side, called a Pūkaiora. This represented their tribal God of War who would guard over the warrior during battle.
This Contemporary Glass Wahaika is adorned with Feathers bound with a natural waxed cord. This is a unique piece of art produced through a complex cast glass process.
This piece is made from Blue 40% Lead Crystal Gaffer glass. The work sits on a base of upcycled Totara and is finished with linseed oil.
