Philodendron Birkin

Philodendron ' Birkin ' is a stunning variety that develops pure white pinstripes on its foliage, growing ever more variegated as the plant matures. This is a somewhat smaller, non-vining Philodendron with an upright growth habit. Birkins have the ability to revert back into a Rojo Congo or possibly mutate again. Although Birkin leaves are typically green with white pinstripes, they have also been known to grow red and cream coloured leaves.

Please note; size of plant may vary during season due to availability. Will mature into impressive house plant (first picture) in the right conditions.

Light: Plenty of bright, filtered light.

Temp: A philodendron birkin does well in a warm and humid room since they are tropical plants. Try to keep the temperature of the room between 18C and 24C during the day. It should be around 16C at night. They will not tolerate cold or frost, therefore the room should never drop below 13C.

Water: Weekly (bi weekly in winter). Keep soil moist but do not overwater.

Soil: They grow the best in sphagnum peat moss-based soil. If you don’t want to use only peat moss, you can mix it with perlite for great results too.

Feed: Every month during growing season (Spring-Autumn).

Tips: With variegated plants, it's important to keep the leaves clean so that the plant can feed itself via photosynthesis. Use a damp cloth to clean the leaves.
