In Loving Memory | Painting | by Robyn Fleet

The Blue Cross came about after Robyn Fleet took a camping trip to Waipatiki. While walking along the beach one summer evening, she came across a beautiful cross made of driftwood erected in a mound of sand, with the tide gently coming in around it. It struck her as a poignant scene, suggesting a memorial service for a loved one. This moment led her to reflect on the people who have shaped her life and continue to influence it today. When she returned to her studio, she felt refreshed and inspired, gradually incorporating the cross into her painting. The cross changed colors several times before she settled on blue, which seemed to glow beautifully. The figures in the lower right corner emerged as she added new layers to the painting, as if they had been there all along. Robyn believes these figures represent two spirits. "In Loving Memory" celebrates the loved ones we've lost and honors their enduring presence in our lives through the memories we cherish.
