There is not much research into Lady’s mantle however the constituents are well researched. The main actions from the Tannins being astringent which helps stop bleeding externally and in the gut and also acts as a uterine astringent, reducing discharge and bleeding.

The Antioxidant properties from the proanthocyanins and flavonoids provide protection to the cells and have anti-inflammatory actions including LOX and PAF inhibition.

Traditionally Lady’s mantle has been used for painful and heavy periods, and externally for wound care, diarrhoea and dysentery due to the high astringency.

Taken as a tea the tannins are best extracted in water therefore it should be used for menstrual bleeding and diarrhoea. The flavonoids are best extracted in an alcohol based tincture. (2)
