Elderflower has a long history of use as a medicinal herb as well as a culinary use as a champagne or cordial flavour.

Elderflower’s medicinal use mainly relates to its anti-catarrhal action on the sinus and its anti-allergenic properties from the flavonoids present in the flowers. It also has antiviral potential against some strains of the influenza virus and the HSV-1 virus in cell culture. (1)

Ursolic acid is also an anti-inflammatory agent, (1)

We primarily use Elderflower in our Hayfever tea as it’s anti-catarrhal action lends itself nicely to helping clear the upper respiratory tract of mucous.
