Dewi Sri is the goddess of rice and fertility, and the Mother of the Javanese people. She is honoured across many parts of Indonesia where rice forms the staple diet, hence her attribution to life, prosperity, and abundance. Small temples constructed in rice fields are used to make offerings to Dewi Sri at important times in the harvest cycle to ensure an abundant rice harvest.
