Leaf design cut from up-cycled glass with a sandblasted motif based on the New Zealand native Kōwhai tree. These catch the light so beautifully, you'll be adding different colours to your collection! Completely handmade here in our Golden Bay workshop, including the hooks crafted from recycled Sterling Silver.
Traditionally Māori used the flexible Kōwhai branches as a construction material in their houses and to snare birds. The Kōwhai flowers were a source of yellow dye. They also used the kōwhai tree as medicine. The bark was heated and processed into a poultice to treat wounds, or rubbed on a sore back, or made into an infusion to treat bruising or muscular pains. Kōwhai was also said to be good for healing the wounds of seal bites. Kōwhai trees are highly prized by Māori.
