Rimu Leaf Drop Earrings

Long straight drop earrings made from up-cycled glass featuring a funky rimu design with the inverse part of the design sandblasted away, to create a truly unique pair of earrings! Utilising both parts of our design stencil gives the opposite effect within the pair (see pics). The attractive long weeping leaves of the endemic rimu tree lends itself perfectly to the form of this design.

Most widespread of all New Zealand forest trees, Rimu are seen throughout the North, South and Stewart Islands. They are a slow growing tree with a lifespan up to 800-900 years, reaching heights of up to 50m tall. The graceful appearance of the rimu is enhanced when it fruits every few years, producing small bright red berries at the ends of the branches. Also referred to as red pine, and now a protected species, the tall straight trunks of rimu made hard and dense timber historically used for building houses - many a beautiful rimu floor can still be seen in old villas and houses around New Zealand.
