Why Do I Need ?

Bonsai soil is crucial to the well being of your bonsai tree. Our bonsai soil provides much needed nutrients to your tree, as well as providing excellent drainage, air flow, and water retention. We've created soil mixes that hold water through hot summers but also drains well during wetter months. Our custom blends suit both beginners and experienced bonsai enthusiasts.

Select a bonsai mix based on your bonsai pot size, species, and local climate. If you're unsure, please feel free to reach out to us below. We have given some guidance below

Balanced: Our general mix suits most most species and pot sizes. Watering should be adjusted for your local climate.

Permeable: Our Permeable mix promotes fast drainage and is ideal for larger bonsai pots or growing containers. Fast draining soil promotes extreme growth when combined with an aggressive fertiliser regime (reccomended for experienced growers)

Retentive: Our retentive mix is ideal for bonsai in very small pots (that fit in your palm). Most of our Artisan Range trees fall into this category.

Each batch of soil is hand mixed and contains

- Composted Pine Bark
- Mycorrhizal fungi blend (Increases nutrient absorption, improves soil structure, and promotes resilience to stress and pathogens)
- Pumice
- Sand (retentive mix)
- Slow-release Fertiliser 5 – 2 – 6 TE (4-6 months)
- pH Adjuster
- Wetting Agent (assists with even water distribution)

Each bag will fill approximately two 8" bonsai pots or four 6" bonsai pots.

Please add a note at the checkout if your mix is for an Azalea as we will need to alter the pH of the soil.
