Contemporary Maori Tekoteko Trophy

This contemporary Maori Tekoteko Trophy is a very well-priced trophy for schools, sports groups, and special occasions.

Traditional tekoteko are intricately carved and often seen attached to the gable of a Maori meeting house, although they are also seen at the entrance to a marae, or the base of a poutokomanawa (central support post). They usually have heavily carved faces, a protruding tongue, and a defiant stance. Tekoteko usually represent tribal ancestors, and signify protection and guarding of the tribe. They act as Kaitiaki (guardians) to ward off evil spirits.

So this Tekoteko Trophy is perfect to give to someone you hold in high esteem, or to someone who holds a protective position in your life. It is a wonderful symbol of respect.

The tekoteko is made from Pacific Rimu (podocarp) and stands approximately 305mm (12") tall. That height includes the base, which can be engraved with a gold plaque. The eyes and tongue are made from native New Zealand paua shell.
