Rimu Maori Manaia Heru Comb

This beautiful Manaia Heru (comb) is made from Rimu, has four prongs and is beautifully inlaid with Paua. This stunning comb would make a lovely gift.

The Heru comb was tradtionally worn by Maori to fasten their long hair into a top knot. Heru indicated the rank of the wearer and were often carved from a single piece of wood, whale bone or were made of many individual wooden prongs intricately bound together.

The Manaia Heru Comb is double sided so when worn the ornate design can be viewed from both sides.

It is approx 157mm (6 1/8") long.
