The 1490 10-eye boot is a classic Dr. Martens silhouette — laced even higher for an amped-up attitude. This unisex boot is made with all the classic Doc's DNA, including our classic Smooth leather, a lightly textured and highly durable material with a soft sheen. Built to last, it's made using one of the finest methods of construction: the Goodyear Welt — which means the upper and sole are sewn together in our heat-sealed z-welt stitch. Martens story begins in 1945. Dr. Klaus Maertens, a twenty-five-year-old soldier, had returned to Munich after the second World War nursing a broken foot. Finding the generic leather-soled footwear too harsh during his recovery, Maertens made an air-cushioned sole that would provide more cushioning and traction.
