This flatweave is called a 'sofreh' which are mainly used as eating cloths, spread on the floor to provide a clean surface on which food may be presented. Today, these almost square kilims look fantastic as a wall hanging, or equally as beautiful on the floor. The square shape makes this kilim very versatile.

This sofreh is a vintage Balouch kilim probably woven in Iran.
