Papaver commutatum | Ladybird

 

The cultivar Papaver commutatum ‘Ladybird’, commonly known as the ‘Ladybird’ Poppy, so named because of their unique black markings on striking red petals. They have rightly earned the prestigious Award of Garden Merit.

This hypnotic plant can be found growing in the wild in several regions of northern Turkey and northwestern Iran.

Thanks to their pattern, ‘Ladybird’ poppies have become highly popular ornamental cottage garden plants worldwide. Not only do these beauties look absolutely stunning, but they are also very easy to grow and care for. These plants have been mostly seen in various landscape decorations like meadows, beds and sunny borders. Without a doubt, they will look fantastic as cut flowers in alluring vases or potted plants in adorable containers. The bees love them too.

Dead head often to keep the plant blooming through late spring and into summer.

They need full sun and well-drained soil.

They will grow to 50cm tall and 25cm wide and readily self-seed.
