SPRING OF LIFE

- Pure and ever moving, never stagnant always in sight of hope.

Here's how the artist describes this piece: "the Paua shell represents a “SPRING OF LIFE". The water flows out from the spring and life begins".

The pool is charactered by inlaid pāua shell in the top of the antler - this creates a flow of life-giving water represented by the meandering line down the front of the pendant - a trickle that becomes a stronger flow.

This is a gorgeous, hand made deer antler pendant carved by one of our favourite bone carvers - Fumio Noguchi! Fumio learnt his carving here in New Zealand and has worked with some masters of this craft. He reaches back into his Japanese heritage and the long tradition of Netsuke in much of his carving, but he also incorporates local design and carving techniques. You can see these influences in his work - the detail and meaning behind each piece - a good example of these.

Hand carved with beautiful bright New Zealand cold water Pāua Shell and deer antler. A stunning piece of wearable art, for lovers of art!

The detail in this piece is evidence of Fumio's love of Japanese netsuke techniques. Fumio has created the contrast in the body of this piece using a traditional dying technique called “Yasha". This is a dyeing method used in Japan since the 8th Century to dye paper and he has used it to tremendous effect here.

This is a largish pendant, but looks fantastic when worn. We will supply this with a hand-plaited, adjustable Flax and Maui Navy Blue cord to accentuate the beautiful bright blue Pāua Shell at the top.

We provide in one of our wooden boxes.

On the side of this pendant, Fumio has carved his signature.
