- a spectacular piece of wearable art for ornithologists, bird watchers and all lovers of our feathered friends!

a magnificent piece, hand carved from Marsden Jade. The subtle detail in this piece are gorgeous - Kyohei has lent the piece subtle curves and indentations. It is a beautiful pendant to hold and will improve with wear and time. A legacy piece you will want to keep in the family.

This piece is a contemporary representation of the Huia bird. To Māori the huia was a sacred treasure - highly ranked chiefs and their family members wore the striking tail feathers in their hair as both a decoration and a symbol of their position. This was a beautiful and revered bird in New Zealand.

The Huia is a, now extinct, native bird of New Zealand. They were apparently a little 'ecologically naive' and being poor flyers were easy prey for two and four-legged predators! More is the shame because they were a lovely and striking song-bird.

This carving depicts a female head and beak. The female had a decurved, longer beak than the male - Kyohei has fashioned this delicately and true to fossilised skulls that have been found. It is a great tribute to another lost icon of our bush.

Take a close look at the photos to appreciate the detail of this piece. is a medium sized pendant and looks fantastic when worn. We will supply this with a hand-plaited 4-strand olive green, adjustable cord.

We have added a photo (courtesy of Wikipedia) of a print of a male and female Huia - just to give you a little perspective! One only - Free delivery to you with Express Courier
