- Sea Pirate

Carved from stunning New Zealand Kahurangi Jade - these matau pendants are a gorgeous, smaller sized pendant.

The Jade is a lovely semi-translucent, apple green jade sourced locally in New Zealand.

As an adornment, matau are said to bring prosperity, abundance, good health and power. They are believed to lend authority to the wearer. Matau are worn as a talisman to provide protection and safety when travelling over water.

The fish hook played an important role in the lives of early Polynesian cultures as it provided the means to catch fish - a staple and important part of their diet. A good fish hook was something of real value. These values are still considered inherent in these carved representations.

lovingly packaged in a woven kete pouch.

We will provide these pendants with a hand-plaited, black cord which is adjustable in the length. Also included, one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the hook design.

Please note - the photo shown being worn is for size reference only.
