Hans Brutsch

1928 – 2014

Swiss born Hans Brutsch immigrated to New Zealand in 1951. He first worked as a shepherd on farms in the Waikato before marrying and moving to Auckland in 1960. There he changed profession to become a painter and decorator.

Self taught Brutsch was self-taught and developed a unique style of soft sepia tones and delicate brush strokes. His subjects were romantic land and seascapes. He began selling his works in 1970.
