Most brand new guitars come with MA140 light gauge strings on them, so that is the "regular" size and the world's biggest-selling string set.
The thicker the string the more bottom end or "tone" you can get from your guitar, also string life, and guitar volume. That comes at a price of being harder on your fingers, and "feel" of the strings.
