- Important Information Day 1: Cairo - Alexandria Today you will be met at your hotel and transferred by private vehicle to Alexandria where Cleopatra rolled herself into a rug to be smuggled into Julius Caesar’s Palace. The city is also famed for its lighthouse from antiquity, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the historic Library which was destroyed by fire but in more modern times reconstructed. Your accommodation has been reserved in Alexandria for two nights. Day 2: Alexandria - El Alamein - Alexandria (BL)

This morning you will depart on a full day tour with your private Egyptologist to El Alamein – lunch is included on your tour today. Located 105kms to the west of Alexandria and site of one of the most decisive battles of World War II, it was here that 200,000 Allied soldiers under the command of Bernard Montgomery finally defeated Erwin Rommel – known as the Desert Fox. This battle which cost many lives on both sides is credited with leading to the surrender of the Axis forces in North Africa. The Allied Cemetery and museum are sober places to reflect on this significant WWII campaign. Return to Alexandria late afternoon. Day 3: Alexandria – Cairo (BL)

Today join your private Egyptologist for a tour of Alexandria – lunch is included during your tour today. Your morning will begin with a visit to Pompeii’s Pillar, a red Aswan granite column standing some 90 feet high, erected in honour of the Emperor Diocletian. Continue to the catacombs, an extensive three level funerary dating from the 2nd century AD. Continue to visit the Montazah Gardens at the eastern end of Alexandria, surrounded by the Royal Summer Palaces of the former King Farouk. Next stop is the National Museum which displays more than 1800 archaeological pieces. Later, visit the Bibliotheca Alexandria which was once the cultural centre of the ancient world. The library was built near the Ptolemu Royal Palace. First damaged by fire in 47AD and then totally destroyed in 642AD. In 1988, the Egyptian President Mubarak laid the first stone in rebuilding this great library. It was inaugurated in 2000 with 800,000 books. Shaped like a massive, partly hidden, tilted disc rising up from the Mediterranean, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina evokes the image of a rising sun, a source of light and enlightenment. Upon completion of your tour, you will be transferred by private vehicle to Cairo. Commence your own arrangements on arrival back in Cairo. TOUR INCLUSIONS:
