This charm is inspired by the iconic Māori kowhaiwhai patterns often used to honour influential and celebrated ancestors. These patterns adorned the tribal waka (canoes) of the first Māori to arrive on the shores of Aotearoa. The intricate patterns represent the everlasting family ties and tell the unique stories of your lineage (whakapapa) and family tree. The red enamel is a traditional Māori colour used to symbolise Papatūānuku, Earth Mother, the sustainer of all living things.
