The Supermarine Spitfire is a fighter aircraft used by the RAF throughout World War 2. The single seat aircraft was built for use as a short-range, high-performance interceptor but was also used as a photo-reconnaissance, fighter bomber and trainer. In total, 20,351 were produced. 70 Spitfires currently remain airworthy.
