Echium vulgare (or Vipers Bugloss) is a species of the borage family but is more commonly known as Blue Borage in New Zealand.

The flower resembles the head of a viper and the root of the plant was historically used to treat snake bites in some countries.

Collected near Alexandra in Central Otago.
