The Savage Red, unlike the White, is a straight 100% offering rather than a blend. In this case it's Syrah sourced from the South African region of Stellenbosch in the country's southwest.

Black fruits and plums dance from the glass, intermixed with spicy, smoky notes and some meat and oak aromas, showing wonderful complexity. The palate continues this richness and the few years of bottle age have tamed the tannins and added some lovely tertiary, savoury characters to the black fruits on offer.

Like the Savage White, this is a wine for sipping, not glugging, and it's the perfect accompaniment for grilled meats, particularly a South African barbecue.
