The new Generation Three Lulla Doll now comes in three colour variations, has adjustable and improved sound and also offers an improved running time of 12 hours. The battery life has now been tripled in the new model!
The new fabric used is softer and more durable, with adorable embroidered details.
Lulla now comes in a beautiful strong gift box and includes a signature calico wash bag for machine washing.
The doll can be machine washed at 40C or even 60C to kill any bacteria, after taking out the easily removable sound box from its velcro pocket.
The doll uses 2 x AA batteries. Read more about battery usage below.
Will Lulla help my baby or toddler sleep better?
The reviews of Lulla have been good overall, or we would not be selling it! Many families have reported that Lulla has made a difference both to settling and improved sleeping overnight. However there are also families who have bought Lulla and found no difference to their child’s sleep as a result of introducing Lulla.
Lulla uses white noise for soothing, along with the soft doll as a comfort item to cuddle. Both white noise and comforters are well known to help children sleep better and are two of the things we frequently recommend as part of our sleep advice and article.
BUT we are not suggesting that Lulla is a magic bullet that will miraculously improve sleep just by adding the doll to your child’s bed! Lulla will work most effectively when you are also addressing factors leading to night waking or poor settling skills, including teaching your baby to fall asleep without help.
So yes we do think that Lulla will be a very useful addition to a sleep plan or to your bedtime routine but it is certainly not guaranteed to improve sleep if this is all you change!
Breathing and heartbeat sounds
Lulla is a sleep companion for your babies and children. It is a soft doll containing a unique sound box, playing the real-life recording of a mother’s breathing and heartbeat.
Lulla’s unique patent pending design was inspired by research on kangaroo care, the effects of heartbeat and breathing sounds, and the effects that smell, sight and touch have on babies and small children.
The Lulla Doll imitates closeness of a caregiver at rest with its soothing sounds of real heartbeat & breathing and soft touch.
Lulla’s unique design is based on scientific research that shows how closeness improves sleep, wellbeing and safety.
The Lulla now comes in three different designs with matching wash bags.
12 hour running time
The Generation Three Lulla now runs for 12 hours at a time (previously 8 hours). If your baby has Lulla running for a 2 hour nap, you can then turn it off. You will need to restart Lulla after 12 hours if you want her to continue playing.
The aim of Lulla Doll is to help babies:
- Sleep longer
- Fall asleep more easily & sleep for longer periods at a time
- Feel better
- Experience less negative emotions and crying & decrease stress levels
- Be safer
- Stabilise heartbeat and breathing
these are the possible benefits of closeness, heartbeat & breathing sounds and comforters according to multiple pieces of research.
What age can you use Lulla from?
Lulla can be attached to the side of a cot for younger babies. We recommend you use the attachment until at least 6 months of age.
Information about battery use:
Yes Lulla runs on batteries - 2 x AA batteries. There are a set of regular batteries included. A set of regular batteries will last approx. 300 hours, so you do need to have batteries on hand. The manufacturers recommend good quality rechargeable batteries so you are not spending a lot on replacing batteries and having to dispose of them.
A set of good quality batteries (not cheap hardware or chain store batteries) will now last for about 300 hours of Lulla sound. So this should last for about 3 weeks, if you are using Lulla for 12 hours every night and a 2-hour nap every day OR a 10-hour night sleep and two 2-hour day naps.
If you use Lulla more, such as resetting her for another 12-hour cycle overnight, then your batteries will be used even more quickly.
The importer of Lulla has tested many local battery brands and the brands recommended are:
- Alkaline: Duracell, Energiser, Ever Ready Gold (about 300 hours use before replacing)
- Rechargeable: Eneloop and Energiser (About 150 hours before recharging)
More reasonably priced batteries that worked well for the price (but won’t last as long as high-quality batter
