034 Motorsport is proud to announce the availability of Southbend Clutch's product line for the Volkswagen MkIV Jetta, Golf/GTI, and New Beetle equipped with the 1.8T or VR6 engine and the 02M 6 speed transmission. Southbend's lineup is a favorite among users and include some stellar offerings.
Street Series
The Street Series kits are intended for cars that are mainly driven on the street and occasionally at the track. All Street Series clutch kits are designed with full face clutch linings bonded to a Marcel type disc to give you a smoother engagement than any puck style clutch. Full face clutches are available with the same friction materials as the puck style clutches and will not sacrifice torque.
Rally Series: HD Stage 1: Torque Capacity 365lb ft: Rally kits contain a modified high performance pressure plate and heavy duty organic disc. The linings on this disc are premium woven medium metal content lining. This facing has a 9000 RPM burst and dissipates heat quicker then any other organic lining on the market. This kit generates 1/3 more torque then stock. Also included in the kit are a throw-out bearing, pilot bearing, and alignment tool.
TX Series: HD Stage 2: Torque Capacity 425lb ft: TZ kits contain a modified high performance pressure plate with a heavy duty Kevlar® lined disc. The metal backed Kevlar® linings provide a smooth engagement and have the torque capacity to handle high horse power, high revving engines; the disk is rated to 12,000rpm. These clutch kits maintain a stock feel at the pedal and have unmatched durability. Also included in the kit are a throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and alignment tool.
SS vs. HD Kits
The SS series kits use the same friction materials on the disc but have an extreme clamp load pressure plate with a pedal effort increase up to 50%. The result is a more aggressive, stronger clutch that can handle most any performance upgrades.
OFE Series: SS Stage 4: Torque Capacity 480ft lb: The OFE SS kit combines the newest technology in linings: A Feramic full face lining on the flywheel side and a "medium metal" content organic lining on the pressure plate side. This combination runs cooler and significantly extends clutch life. The OFE SS series clutch not only engages very smooth, it has the torque capacity of other Stage 5 clutch kits.
DXD Racing Clutches
The Track Series is intended for cars mainly used on the race track. The puck style clutches deliver a much more aggressive engagement than our full face series. Puck style clutches will give you quick starts and fast shifting.
DXD Puck Series: SS Stage 4: Torque Capacity 480lb ft: The DXD SS Puck kit contains a extreme clamp load pressure plate, and a 6 button, true dual friction clutch disc. By using ceramic buttons on the flywheel side of the disc and 100% Kevlar® buttons on the pressure plate, this disc will provide all the holding power required by today's serious racers.
DXD-F: SS Stage 5: Torque Capacity 576lb ft: Our DXD-F SS series is the ultimate in puck style clutches. Our Feramic product incorporates graphite and cindered iron for the highest torque friction product in the industry. The DXD-F SS is intended only for the serious racer. Feramic will greatly reduce wear to the flywheel and pressure plate casting making this puck clutch out-last the competition.

Note about break-in: This clutch uses a heavy duty clutch disc that performs well in very high torque use that produce extreme shear forces and heat. In order to gain this performance advantage, the disc friction material is much harder and more robust than the typical OEM organic disc. In addition, the disc backing plate, what the friction material is riveted to, is much more rigid. OEM clutch discs use a type of belleville spring washer to allow the disc to compress and be compliant when being clamped between the pressure plate and flywheel friction surfaces. These high performance clutches, however, use a solid steel backing plate which does not compress at all, this type of construction gives the disc its incredible strength, but means that the disc will require more break-in time than the compliant OEM counterpart. Keep in mind that this clutch may have trouble fully disengaging the first time it's used, and will require much more break-in than the OEM clutch to achieve normal use. Typically up to 1000 miles of use is normal to get full break-in. Be sure break-in use consists of generous stop and go as well as shifting, the slipping action as the clutch is engaged is what facilitates the break-in process. Ultimately the break-in process is one that allows the clutch disc to confirm to the pressure plate and flywheel friction surfaces, once these surfaces confirm to each other they perform very well and of
