This French heirloom cucumber has been widely used since the late 1800s to make gherkins (cornichons). The dark-green fruits are perfect for enjoying fresh as mini cucumbers or for pickling. They thrive in humus-rich, well-draining soil in a sunny location. Regular harvesting will promote the production of more fruit.

Cutting cucumbers with firm, cylindrical fruit that typically measures around 15 cm. These are ideal for growing on trellises or along the ground. Harvesting the first fruits close to the base of the plant encourages the vines to produce more. The skin is not bitter, but it's best to peel it before eating.

Bred for pickling, these medium-green cucumbers have crisp flesh and excellent flavour. Harvest when 5cm long for tiny, sweet pickles or at full size 12-15cm for gherkins. A vigorous vine best supported for heavy yields over a long season. Very disease tolerant.

Chinese Giant produces large capsicums with almost square to 15cm. It will be ripe from dark green to bright red fruit with sweet, juicy thick walls. Excellent flavour.

A colourful blend of sweet capsicums including green, yellow, orange, red and purple. Blocky fruit shape that are 3 or 4 lobed, with thick fruit walls. Fruit can be harvested at the green stage but are sweeter, tastier and more colourful when fully ripe. Grow in free draining and warm soil. Feed regularly.

This Italian heirloom kale features slate-grey, long, narrow blistered leaves. With a softer texture and milder flavor than curly kales, it is quite tolerant of both heat and cold. For a continuous harvest, sow a short row every three weeks, ideally harvesting when the leaves are younger.

This heirloom lettuce features crisp, juicy leaves that overlap to create a glossy green head. Perhaps the most famous of all lettuce varieties, its essential for summer salads. The medium-sized heads can withstand some summer heat but thrive best in cooler weather.

55 days, determinate Gold Nugget produces a large amount of small, one-inch in diameter, globular, cherry-type fruit that, as its name implies, are golden-yellow colored. Good flavour.

The Maori Kamo Kamo or Kumi Kumi is green and ribbed, maturing to a golden colour and growing approximately 1 to 1.5 kg and 30cm long. Can be used fresh as an ordinary marrow but when fully matured the skin dries and hardens, making this vegetable suitable for winter storing.
